The "BIG BANDS" have gone through many changes over the past century! Like the Bands of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Harry James and many more.
Then, the Bands started to compete with one another to play louder, higher and faster, forgetting about the 'Dancers' and becoming more of a Concert 'Jazz' or 'Show' Band like Stan Kenton or Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, etc...
Then we had the Singer' Bands ala Vaughn Monroe; 'Society' Bands; Latin 'Jazz' Bands.
Next came the 'Ghost Bands' with young leaders trying to improve on the "Originals." Many of them again forgetting, once again, the 'Dancers'. College Stage Bands and Rehearsal Bands playing louder, higher and faster!
Now, I feel it is time for the 'listeners' and 'Dancers'. Like the Great Bands that stayed the course and continued to perform musical and relaxed JBasie and hopefully the Dale Burke Band!
What a wonderful Musical Journey we have had
Let's keep the Big Bands 'Swingin' !!
